A$AP MOB Flaunts Raw Musical Talent on Cozy Tapes: Vol 2

Entertainment

Cozy Tapes Vol. 2: Too Cozy, the second studio album by the American hip hop group A$AP Mob, was released on the 25th of August this year. Like it’s prequel, Cozy Tapes Vol 1: Friends, this album features a wide collection of songs. With features from artists such at A$AP Rocky, Gucci Mane, Big Sean, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty, and more, it is no surprise that the songs are catchy and, in a way, cozy.

When it comes to production quality, the album is spot on. All the songs have a unique, catchy beat and rhythm that you can’t help but get stuck in your head for hours. The song “BYF” (Be Your Friend), which features A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ant, and Smooky Margielaa (who is only 15 years old), featured a beat that was at first really peaceful, yet upbeat at the same time. I really didn’t know that was possible until I heard this song. The rhyming and rhythm was pretty good as well. You could hear the music and the rappers really well, and there were no disturbances, so the quality was pretty good. Over all, these songs were well executed.

The lyrics were good too. They were really catchy, and each lyric complimented the other. A couple of songs perfectly resembled real life situations. For example, “Please Shut Up” was really catchy and is a song that I think a few people can relate to. The song’s hook, a repetition of the song title, was sung in a way in which you could hear and feel their agitation. Most of the song was essentially them saying please shut up, but that, together with the other lyrics, gave the song a nice flow. However, it was really short, and kind of gave the impression that it wasn’t fully finished.  Another song that I really liked is “BYF” (Be Your Friend). The hook of the song, which was sung by A$AP Rocky, featured lyrics that were slurred, which gave the song a cozy feel. The rhyming, especially that of A$AP Ant’s, was on point, and the choice of wording gave this song a whole different feel. Another song from this album was “Frat Rules.” The song starts off by playing the beat, which sounds great just by itself. Then it gets into the hook, which is a little repetitive, but grows on you as the song goes on. The two verses are amazing though. The way A$AP Rocky and Big Sean sing back to back is just really impressive. And the way everything comes together in this song is really good. Another song is “Perry Aye.” The chorus is sung by Jaden Smith, and his voice is almost unrecognizable. Altogether the flow of the song was on point. Overall, the lyrics of these songs were really catchy and lively.

The album featured not just songs, but three skits as well. These three skits, called “Skool Bus,” “Principal Daryl Choad,” and “Last Day of School,” all had one common theme: school. They were really hilarious, and involved the rappers in them. In the first skit, “Skool Bus,” they start off with a roasting session. It was funny, and cool to see how savage each rapper was. In another skit, “Principal Daryl Choad,”  Principal Daryl (voiced by John C. Reilly) gives an announcement about how there will be auditions for the play, “Bad and Boujee,” and how Milly Rock isn’t allowed anywhere on campus. The last skit, “Last Day of School,” was a personal favorite. It was pretty cool to have these skits along with the songs because you got a glimpse of the rappers’ personalities and humor.

Cozy Tapes Vol. 2: Too Cozy was a hit. The songs on this album were, without a doubt, exceptional. Each song had its own unique beat, amazing flow and rhythm, and the skits were pretty funny. Each rapper contributed to the album perfectly, and you could tell that they put a lot of work into it.

Overall, the songs lived up to the album’s name; they were all just too cozy.
